So, my mom is joining me on the beginning of my "however long I feel like trippin'" road trip. This is a rough draft, and an ambitious one at that. I'll be revising it over the weekend and some of the coming week to get a final "plan" (and I'm using that word loosely here). There are a few spots that were inspired by A Dangerous Business recent road trip. But for now this is what I'd like to shoot for, and if it doesn't work out that way, it's okay. I still have time... I just wanted Mom to see a lot too.
DAY ONE:
Sunday, September 11
*Leave Monticello, AR between 5-6 am.
-Arrive in Oklahoma City, OK around 1:30.
-Expect to spend an hour at OKC Memorial Site.
*Leave Oklahoma City, OK, by 3 at latest.
-Arrive in Amarillo, TX, around 7 pm.
-Stop by Cadillac Ranch and Big Texan if there is still day-light.
-Stay the night.
DAY TWO:
Monday, September 12
*Leave Amarillo, TX, between 5-6 am.
-If time did not permit on DAY ONE, go by Cadillac Ranch and Big Texan.
-Arrive in Pecos National Monument, NM, around 10 am. $3.00 (annual pass).
-Expect 1-2 hours.
*Leave Pecos by 12 noon.
-Arrive in Santa Fe, NM, by 1 pm.
-Spend 1-2 hours and leave by 3:30 pm.
*Leave Santa Fe by 3:30 pm.
-Arrive in Albuquerque, NM, by 5 pm.
-Spend 1-1.5 hour and leave by 6:30 pm.
*Leave Albuquerque, NM, by 6:30 pm.
-Arrive at Teec Nos Pos, AZ, by 11 pm.
DAY THREE:
Tuesday, September 13
*Leave Teec Nos Pos, AZ at 6:30 am.
-Visit Four Corners for about 30 minutes. $3.00
-Leave by 8 am.
*Leave Four Corners by 8 am.
-Arrive in Valley of the Gods, UT, around 10:30 am.
-Spend 2 hours here.
*Leave Valley of the Gods, UT, by 1 pm.
-Arrive at the Petrified Forrest by 6 pm.
-The park closes at 5 pm, so stay the night here.
DAY FOUR:
Wednesday, September 14
*Leave Petrified Forrest/Painted Desert by 10 am.
-Arrive in Sedona, AZ, around 1 pm.
-Spend 1-2 hours in Sedona, AZ.
-Leave by 3 pm.
*Leave Sedona by 3 pm.
-Arrive at South Rim of Grand Canyon by 5 pm ($25/vehicle).
-Catch the sunset if possible.
-Stay the night here.
DAY FIVE:
Thursday, September 15
*See the sunrise at the South Rim and leave by 8 am.
-Arrive at the North Rim by 12 noon.
-Spend 3 hours here.
*Leave North Rim by 3 pm.
-Arrive in Las Vegas by 9 pm.
-Walk the Strip.
DAY SIX:
Friday, September 16
*Spend another day/night in Las Vegas.
-Go to the Hoover Dam.
-Hit the Strip.
-Check out Old Las Vegas.
DAY 7:
Saturday, September 17
*Leave Las Vegas around 11 am.
-Arrive in San Diego, CA, by 5.
-Spend the night.
DAY 8:
Sunday, September 18
*Leave San Diego, CA, by 3 pm.
-Arrive in San Clemente by 4:30 pm.
-Watch the sunset at 6 pm.
*Leave San Clemente by 8 pm.
-Arrive in Los Angeles by 9 pm and go to Muholland Drive.
-Stay the night in LA.
DAY 9:
Monday, September 19
*Leave Los Angeles, CA, by 3 pm.
-Visit Santa Monica, Hollywood, Griffith Park, La Brea Tar Pit before leaving LA.
-Arrive in Santa Barbra, CA, by 4 pm.
-Spend an hour here.
*Leave Santa Barbra, CA, by 3 pm.
-Arrive in Santa Maria by 3 pm.
-Watch sunset at 6 pm.
-Drive up the coast till tired or till Salinas, CA.
DAY 10:
Tuesday, September 20
*If already in Salinas, CA, leave at 6 am.
*If not, leave Santa Barbra by 6 am.
-Arrive in San Francisco, CA, by 12 noon.
-Spend the day in San Francisco and stay the night.
DAY 11:
Wednesday, September 21
*Leave San Francisco, CA, by 6 am.
-Arrive in Crescent City, CA, by 1 pm.
-Visit the National Redwood Forrest.
-Stay the night.
DAY 12:
Thursday, September 22
*Leave Crescent City, CA, by 5 pm.
-Arrive in Eugene, OR, around 10 pm.
-Stay the night in Eugene, OR.
DAY 13:
Friday, September 23
*Leave Eugene, OR, by 7 am.
-Arrive in Portland, OR, by 9 am.
DAY 14:
Saturday, September 24
-Spend the day in Portland, OR.
*Leave Portland, OR, by 11 am.
-Arrive in Seattle, WA, around 2 pm.
-Spend the day in Seattle, WA.
DAY 15:
Sunday, September 25
Spend the day in Seattle and prepare for mom’s flight back to Arkansas.
DAY 16:
Monday, September 26
Mom flies back to Little Rock, AR.
